Never-before-seen atomic nucleus Aluminium-20 discovered
Scientists have detected aluminium-20, a previously unknown and highly unstable isotope, for the first time. Discovered by researchers at the Institute of Modern Physics, CAS, aluminium-20 undergoes a rare three-proton emission process. The finding, made at GSI, Germany, reveals isospin symmetry breaking and deepens understanding of exotic nuclear decay far from the stability line.
