New edible mushroom 'Tit iongnah' discovered in Meghalaya
Scientists have identified a new edible mushroom species, Lactifluus khasianus, in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills—long known to Khasi tribes as 'Tit iongnah'. Growing with Khasi pine at 1,600 m altitude, it differs genetically from similar species and is the first edible one of its section in India. The discovery highlights indigenous knowledge and forest biodiversity.
