New hairy snail species found in Maharashtra’s Tilari forest
Researchers from the Thackeray Wildlife Foundation have discovered a new species of hairy snail, Lagocheilus hayaomiyazakii sp. nov., in Kolhapur's Tilari forest. Named after Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki, the tiny snail inhabits semi-evergreen thickets and rocks. It marks the first record of the Lagocheilus genus in the northern Western Ghats, extending its range 540 km north.
