Oldest evidence of humans found on island near 'Hobbit' homeland
Archaeologists from Indonesia and Australia discovered oldest evidence of human presence on Sulawesi, an island located near Flores, which was home to the ancient 'Hobbit' species, Homo floresiensis. Stone tools found at the Calio site at Sulawesi are estimated to be over one million years old. The find suggests that early humans crossed ocean barriers far earlier than previously believed.
