Panar Leopard: The man-eater that claimed 400 lives
The Leopard of Panar was a male leopard that reportedly killed around 400 people in the early 20th century in the Panar region of the Almora district in Kumaon. While tigers become man-eaters due to injuries or old age, which makes it extremely difficult for them to go for their usual prey, leopards who become man-eaters are generally healthy animals.
