Qantas fined ₹515.5 crore for laying off 1,800 employees illegally in Australia
An Australian court has imposed a $59 million (about ₹515.5 crore) fine on the country's largest airline Qantas for illegally laying-off 1,800 ground staff during the COVID-19 pandemic. The court said it wanted the penalty to be a "real deterrence" to firms tempted by financial rewards of breaking employment law. The 104-year-old airline last year agreed to ₹683-crore compensation too.
