Rabies causes 20,000 deaths in India every year: WHO's estimate
According to World Health Organization's (WHO) estimate, rabies causes 18,000-20,000 deaths annually in India. About 30-60% of reported cases and deaths occur in children under 15 as their bites often go unrecognised and unreported, according to WHO. Further, the WHO said India is endemic for rabies and accounts for 36% of the world's rabies deaths.
