Recycled plastic may harm hormone systems, lipid metabolism: Study
Recycled polyethylene plastic can leach chemicals into water, potentially harming hormone systems and lipid metabolism, according to a study published in Journal of Hazardous Materials. Researchers soaked recycled plastic pellets in water for 48 hours, then exposed zebrafish larvae to it for five days. The fish showed changes in gene expression linked to lipid metabolism and endocrine regulation.
