Researchers identify first-ever single gene that causes mental illness
Researchers have identified GRIN2A as the first-ever gene that can, on its own, cause a mental illness. The study, published in journal Molecular Psychiatry, statistically analysed 121 people whose GRIN2A gene was altered. "We were able to show that certain variants of this gene are associated not only with schizophrenia but also with other mental illnesses," the lead author said.
