Satellites track the largest ocean waves ever seen
Satellites recorded record-breaking waves nearly 66 feet high, as tall as Paris's Arc de Triomphe during Storm Eddie in December 2024. The wave recorded by SWOT, a French-US satellite, marked the highest average wave height ever measured from space. The swell, carrying immense energy, travelled 15,000 miles over 15 days from North Pacific through Drake Passage to the tropical Atlantic.
