The Supreme Court called rising student suicides "deeply distressing" and issued set of 15 guidelines targeting educational institutions. The guidelines mandate steps such as mandatory mental health counselling, effective grievance redressal mechanisms and robust regulatory oversight. They also mandated compulsory mental health training for teaching and non-teaching staff at least twice a year.
