SC introduces quota for OBCs in staff recruitment for the 1st time
The Supreme Court introduced reservations for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in the direct recruitment of its non-judicial staff for the first time. The court already had a quota for SCs and STs under the Supreme Court Officers and Servants (Conditions of Service and Conduct) Rules, 1961. The rules were amended by CJI BR Gavai to include OBCs, the physically challenged, ex-servicemen, and dependents of freedom fighters.
