Scientists develop eco-friendly plastic ingredient using E coli
Scientists at Kobe University in Japan have engineered E coli bacteria to produce pyridinedicarboxylic acid (PDCA), a biodegradable, nitrogen-based plastic ingredient. They fed the bacteria glucose and added special enzymes to help produce PDCA through a cleaner, biological process. PDCA can replace harmful components like terephthalic acid in PET plastics, making it more environmentally friendly.
