Equity benchmark Sensex surged 700 points to close at 80,983.31 on Wednesday after RBI kept the repo rate unchanged at 5.5%. The Nifty also gained 225 points to end at 24,836. This is the second consecutive time the central bank has kept the repo rate unchanged following the June MPC meeting's decision to reduce the rate by 50 basis points.
