Sesame promoted to curb Assam’s elephant conflict
Farmers in Assam’s Udalguri and Baksa are being encouraged to grow sesame instead of paddy to reduce elephant raids. Aaranyak, with SBI Foundation’s support, has begun seed distribution in conflict-hit villages. Sesame, not preferred by elephants, offers farmers safer harvests while easing human-elephant tensions in one of India’s worst conflict zones.
