Smoking 2-5 cigarettes per day doubles heart disease risk: Study
A study published in PLOS Medicine, which used data from 3,23,826 adults, found people who smoked 2-5 cigarettes/day had 50% higher risk of heart failure and 60% greater risk of death from any cause, as compared to non-smokers. It further found, after quitting, it may take 30 years or more to reach risk levels similar to that of lifelong non-smokers.
