TRAI proposes auction route for Digital Radio rollout
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has recommended allocating frequency bands for digital radio to private broadcasters through auctions. Services will launch in 13 major cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. Broadcasters can migrate to simulcast mode within six months. TRAI has also proposed a 4% AGR-based authorisation fee, with concessions for border and hilly regions.
