US courts halt deportation of Indian-origin man wrongfully jailed for 43 years
Two US courts have ordered immigration officials not to deport Subramanyam Vedam, a 64-year-old Indian-origin man who was wrongfully jailed for 43 years. Vedam was wrongfully accused of killing a friend in 1980 as he was the last person seen with him. After a court overturned his conviction, he was released in October but was taken straight into immigration custody.
