The US government's gross national debt has surpassed a record $37 trillion, according to latest Treasury Department report. The debt grew faster than expected because of COVID-19 pandemic during which government borrowed heavily. In addition, US President Donald Trump's tax and spending law is expected to add $4.1 trillion to the national debt over the next decade.
