US reimposes sanctions on India-operated Chabahar port in Iran
US has ended the waiver granted in 2018 under Iran Freedom and Counter-Proliferation Act (IFCA), such that "persons who operate the Chabahar port" will now face sanctions from September 29. The move will affect India, which signed a deal in 2024 to oversee the Iranian port's management. The port helps connect India to Central Asia and Europe by bypassing Pakistan.
