US sues Visa for monopolising debit-card use, affecting prices
US Department of Justice (DOJ) has sued Visa for violating antitrust law by suppressing competition. Visa allegedly threatened merchants with high fees and paid off potential rivals, as per lawsuit. "Visa has unlawfully amassed the power to extract fees that far exceed what it could charge in a competitive market...this affects...price of nearly everything," said Attorney General Merrick Garland.
