What are metal-organic frameworks, that won 2025 Nobel Prize for Chemistry?
The 2025 Nobel Prize for Chemistry recognised a new form of molecular architecture called metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), which contain large cavities in which molecules can flow in and out. For this, metal ions are linked by long organic (carbon-based) molecules to make crystals with cavities. MOFs can be designed to capture and store substances, drive chemical reactions or conduct electricity.
