What is known of 3I/ATLAS comet passing through our solar system?
The 3I/ATLAS comet, passing through our solar system, is only the third such interstellar object ever detected after 'Oumuamua' in 2017 and 'Borisov' in 2019, expert say. It was first detected on July 1, 2025 by Chile's ATLAS telescope. NASA says the comet isn't gravitationally bound to the Sun and it'll make its closest pass to Earth on December 19.
