What's the controversy over Centre's new definition of Aravalli hills?
The Supreme Court on November 20 accepted Centre's recommendation, which proposed that only landforms at an elevation of 100 metres or more above local relief, including their slopes and adjacent land, would be classified as part of Aravalli Hills. Environmentalists criticised the move, saying that over 90% of Aravalli Hills would no longer qualify and could be open to mining/construction.
