What will happen if the sun disappears?
Even a brief disappearance of the Sun, our source of light and warmth on Earth, would trigger dramatic changes. While one minute without it would go unnoticed, within weeks temperatures would drop to 0°C, small plants would die, and photosynthesis would cease. After 200 years, Earth would reach -240°C, lose its atmosphere, seas would gradually freeze, sustaining only deep-sea bacteria.
