When Bengaluru women gave ‘Streedhan’ on Mahatma Gandhi’s call
In 1927, at Mahila Seva Samaja in Bengaluru, Mahatma Gandhi urged women to support the freedom struggle with their streedhan - sacred jewels gifted at marriage. One by one, women parted with rings, necklaces, and earrings, raising Rs 90,000 worth of jewellery. Their sacrifice became a symbol of devotion, inspiring countless others to join India's fight for freedom.
