When does a brain tumour mimic mental illness?
Dr Joy Mounica, consultant neurologist explains that when a tumour presses on certain areas of the brain it can affect mood, behaviour, and thinking. Tumours pressing on frontal or temporal brain regions may trigger abrupt behavioural, cognitive and mood disturbances that mimic psychiatric disorders. Pituitary tumours can disrupt hormones, leading to fatigue, sadness, or anxiety.
