Who is God Dhanvantari and why is he worshipped on Dhanteras?
Lord Dhanvantari, who is regarded as the physician of gods (Devas) and an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, is believed to have emerged from the churning of the cosmic ocean (Samudra Manthan) on the day of Dhanteras. Also called the God of medicine, people worship him on Dhanteras for well-being and good health. He is also known as God of Ayurveda.
