Why does India celebrate Teachers' Day on September 5?
In India, Teachers' Day is celebrated on September 5 to honour Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a philosopher, teacher and scholar, whose birthday falls on this day. Born in 1888, Dr Radhakrishnan became the first Vice President of India in 1952 and served the role till 1962. In 1962, he became the second President of the country and served till 1967.
