Why has WHO warned about 3 India-made cough syrups?
Amid deaths of kids in India, WHO raised a medical alert about three India-made cough syrups due to higher-than-permissible limits (0.1%) of di-ethylene glycol (DEG) present in them. DEG enters syrups through permitted solvent polyethylene glycol and can be toxic to humans. Coldriff was found to have 48.6% DEG, while Respifresh and ReLife syrups contained 1.3% and 0.6% DEG, respectively.
