Why Patriotic songs are sung in this Zamindar family's Durga Puja?
During independence movement, first-line revolutionaries of Bengal used to secretly celebrate Durga Puja at Bagchi family's residence in Nadia, West Bengal. Jatindramohan Bagchi, a respected poet born in this family introduced a ritual in 19th century where, after idol immersion, the family would sing Rabindranath Tagore’s patriotic songs as a prayer to “Bharat Mata”, which continues even today.
