Wild octopus seen showing off 4,000 unique arm movements
By observing three wild octopus species in their natural habitats, researchers recorded 4,000 arm movements. They stated each of an octopus's eight arms can perform all action types, highlighting adaptability and flexibility. Twelve distinct arm actions spanning 15 behaviours, each involving one or more of 4 fundamental deformations: shortening, elongating, bending, and twisting, were observed.
