Yunus' interim govt declares August 8 as 'New Bangladesh Day'
Bangladesh will observe August 8 as 'New Bangladesh Day' to mark the anniversary of Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus being sworn-in as the country's interim leader in 2024. Yunus was sworn-in three days after ex-PM Sheikh Hasina resigned in the aftermath of a student-led uprising. Yunus announced that Bangladesh's next national elections would be held between December 2025 - June 2026.
