CPR should be performed only when a person is unconscious and there's no pulse after four minutes of rescue breathing has been performed. CPR can also be performed on someone who has suffered a cardiac arrest, electrocution or drug overdose or who's choking, drowning or suffocating. In cases of terminal illness, obvious death or highly-contagious diseases, CPR shouldn't be performed.
