Mali's military leader Colonel Assimi Goita has sacked Prime Minister Choguel Kokalla Maiga and his government. The move comes after Maiga criticised the military's failure to hold elections and hand back power to civilians by March 2024. Mali, which has been plagued by jihadist and separatist violence, has been led by the military since back-to-back coups in 2020 and 2021.
