Why are earthquakes so common in Afghanistan?
short by Aradhana / on 03 Nov 2025,Monday
Earthquakes kill about 560 people on average each year in Afghanistan and causes annual damages worth $80 million. Afghanistan is located near convergence of three tectonic plates - Eurasian, Indian and Arabian - creating the world's most tectonically active regions. Northward movement of Indian plate and its thrust against the Eurasian plate is usually responsible for Afghanistan's earthquakes.
