Altering a single gene may help people lower dangerously high levels of cholesterol and other fats in the blood, according to new research presented at the American Heart Association’s annual meeting. Developed by CRISPR Therapeutics, the single-dose treatment edits the ANGPTL3 gene in the liver. Involving 15 volunteers, the study found that one infusion safely cut cholesterol levels in half.
