The Indian government has refused the request by drugmakers seeking to extend a year-end deadline to upgrade their manufacturing facilities to international standards, Reuters reported. The medical companies were asked in late 2023 to ensure their plants meet WHO standards. Notably, the company linked to cough syrup that led to deaths of over 20 children had not upgraded its facilities.
