Bengaluru-based cardiologist Dr VS Prakash said a heart attack occurs when a clot blocks a coronary artery, cutting off oxygen to part of heart muscle while it still beats, and person remains conscious. "Sudden cardiac arrest is an electrical malfunction. The heart's rhythm breaks, and pumping stops completely. The person loses consciousness in seconds...Death follows within minutes," he added.
