The Drugs Consultative Committee (DCC) has suggested that cough syrups should no longer be sold without a doctor's prescription. The move is expected to end the long-standing exemption that allowed unlicensed pharmacists in small villages to sell cough syrups as over-the-counter remedies. The move comes after over 20 children died in Madhya Pradesh due to contaminated cough syrup.
