Human metapneumovirus, or HMPV, which has been in circulation globally since at least 2001, has not shown the same pattern of frequent mutation and variants, as per Star Imaging and Path Lab's Director Dr Sameer Bhati. HMPV is generally less severe and doesn't have the "pandemic potential", Bhati said. He added that HMPV causes mild symptoms similar to a cold.
