PM Narendra Modi criticised Congress, accusing it of contributing to India's partition. He said that in 1905, when British partitioned Bengal, Vande Mataram became voice of Indians. They tried to ban it but failed, while Congress succeeded. He added, "Congress removed a portion of Vande Mataram on religious grounds...Had Congress not committed that sin, India's picture would've been different."
