Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a type of depression triggered by a change in seasons. It usually gets worse in late fall or early winter before ending in sunnier days of spring. It's believed reduced sunlight exposure affects mood-regulating chemicals in brain. Its symptoms include low energy, irritability, difficulty concentrating, changes in sleep and appetite and feelings of hopelessness.
