'Sumehara' is a Japanese term for smell harassment, referring to the discomfort or annoyance caused by fragrances and odours in public spaces. Since 2013, Sumehara broadened to include strong smells of perfume and fabric softeners, pets and cigarette smoke, and the smell of the elderly. Strong perfumes can trigger nausea, migraine or allergy, which can lower productivity and team collaboration.
