Winter spiders are armed with natural antifreeze proteins: Study
short by Swati Dubey / on 19 Nov 2025,Wednesday
Certain Clubiona spiders stay active in winter by using specialised antifreeze proteins that stop ice forming inside their bodies, research stated. These proteins evolved separately from similar ones in beetles and moths, showing how different species can develop the same mechanism to fight extreme cold. Agricultural practices could become more sustainable by mimicking such natural mechanisms.
