A new study found that 5,000-year-old Egyptian mummies smell 'woody', 'spicy' and 'sweet', rather than emitting foul odours. Researchers traced the scents to embalming materials like pine and juniper resins. While pleasant odours were associated with the bodies of deities and their purities, foul odours indicated the body’s corruption and decay.
