For the first time, the Indian Army officially honoured soldiers who died in Operation Pawan, the IPKF mission in Sri Lanka (1987-1990) that claimed the lives of 1,171 Indian soldiers, reports said. The operation was launched to disarm Tamil militant groups, including the LTTE. On November 25, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi honoured them at National War Memorial in Delhi.
