US envoy Steve Witkoff said it was hard to "understand the logic" of those who wanted to end the Ukraine war without talking to Russian President Vladimir Putin. "There was no deal without President Putin's sign-off," he said. Witkoff warned the US could step back if talks fail, adding, "If the US pulls back...that's a bad result for everybody."
