The IUCN has declared the slender-billed curlew and several Australian marsupials extinct in its latest Red List update. Once widespread across Europe and Asia, the curlew hasn’t been seen since 1995. Habitat loss and hunting are blamed for its decline. The update also notes green sea turtle recovery, but rising threats to seals and birds.
