A toothpaste made from keratin, protein present in hair, skin and wool, can repair tooth enamel and prevent early decay. Researchers extracted keratin from wool and applied it to tooth surfaces. When exposed to minerals in saliva, it formed a crystal-like scaffold mimicking natural enamel. This scaffold attracted calcium and phosphate ions, gradually developing a durable enamel-like layer.
